Daikon Radish Seed
Improves Soil, Draws Deer, and Breaks Compaction Naturally
Daikon radish is a fast-growing brassica that serves double duty in food plots: it’s a powerhouse soil builder and a proven late-season deer attractant. With an aggressive taproot that can reach over 30 inches deep in loose soils, daikon radish helps bust through compaction layers, improving water infiltration, root access, and long-term soil health. As the thick tuber decomposes after winterkill, it leaves behind a biologically rich channel of organic matter—essentially a natural aerator for your soil.
This variety is especially useful for growers looking to recycle nutrients, suppress weeds, and lay the groundwork for next season’s plot. The lush, leafy tops are highly palatable to deer once the weather cools, and the sweetened roots become a sought-after food source after a hard frost. For best results, plant daikon radish in late summer so it establishes before freezing temps arrive.
Daikon radish can be planted alone or used as a component in fall blends. It pairs especially well with winter rye, oats, clovers, and brassicas. Avoid planting two years in a row on the same plot to reduce the risk of disease buildup.
